Need AGA T2 Help
« on: November 12, 2013, 03:02:28 PM »
Heya Everyone,

Got everything I needed to get started in rebuilding my first atty. However, ran into a few problems. Quite surprisingly it's more to do with the mesh then actual coiling. What dimensions should I aim for? I've already stuffed up one try (Looks like I need to get some more mesh on order). I tried around 40 by 50 mm (Was going to cut the top off after coiling) but I just couldn't get the wick small enough to fit in the hole, Frustrated I just cut it smaller until I did.

I could get the coils spaced out evenly around the wick, but the SID will fire it one time (severely top hot spotted), and then prompt LOW LOAD the next. When it did fire though, it was reading around 1.6 to 1.8ohm, So I know I'm in the right range.

However, I'm unsure on two things. Is it okay if the mesh touches on the of the center pole inside the tank? ( or does it need to be in such a way so it's only making contact with the liquid and nothing else) have and how the heck do you get the mesh to roll small enough  :banghead:

I've had a look at numerous videos, and to be fair they all seem to do it in a doddle easy peasy

I was going to buy the pre-made wicks on C9V, however it seems they don't stock them anymore.

Ok, this is going to be difficult to explain.

How I roll mesh.

I use this method on everything from 2mm wicks up to 3.5mm.

I don't know what size wick hole is on the AGA T2 - I'll take a guess at 2.5mm.

40mm x 50mm should be perfectly fine. You'll need to crop the top off the wick once it's in place.

Take your piece of mesh and gently flame it each side. This takes the springiness out of it (just like it does for the wire)

With the mesh in front of you, fold up the bottom edge about 2-3mm. This ensures a nice edge with no protruding wires .

Start rolling from the furthest edge. ie, the bit you just folded should be on the outside when done. Don't worry too much at this point about getting it rolled tightly.

Once you have your tube, turn it around so the outside edge faces away from you. Now roll it between your finger away from you and only in that direction.
You should feel it start to tighten up almost immediately.

Try it in the wick hole every so often and keep rolling in one direction until it fits with a bit of gap around the mesh.

Once it does, give it a light oxidise burn all over and you should be good to go.

Once coiled the mesh should be as close to the centre post as you can manage without actually touching.

Hope this helps...

Great advice as always Bazz, Cal it will take a few attempts to get it right but when you do it will be worth the effort. Keep at it....sorry I couldnt give better advice! :)

Pretty much what Bazz said...
I vape like I used to smoke - I prefer to roll my own :)

Thanks chaps!

Certainly not given up yet! Will get a bunch of mesh on order, so I don't feel too frustrated for wasting a piece if it all goes tits up.

I assume because it was firing one time, and not the other it was shorting out somewhere?

Onwards and upwards!

CalVic,

Variable mods are not great for gennies as they use PWM (in stead of say, 3 volts, it uses 6 volts for half the time) which can burn through the oxidisation layer quite easily.

This is one of the reasons I prefer to use a mechanical mod with straight battery voltage.

I DID IT!

This time I spent more time oxidizing and changed the way I coiled it.

Reading 2.0 Ohm, and the coils glowing equally

after this picture was took, I spaced out the coils more neatly. Just gotta fill up the tank and give it a go!

I'm not too fussed if the vape isn't too good, but I feel an accomplishment in getting it to actually fire and the coils glowing equally.

Just filled it up and had a first vape @ 8 Watt

Tastes very nice and silky smooth, not so much throat hit at all, but it's a flavor I've not tried before (Orange 70/40 VG/PG). I'll be trying it in my Protank II for comparison.

It's pretty much silent as well, non of the popping or crackling I get previous tanks like the Nova or ProTank

For me, I consider it a success!

2 ohm is fairly high for a genny, though by no means excessive.

I'd either take one wrap off or use a thicker wire with the same number of coils (My regular coil is 4/3 wraps of .25 wire.. usually comes out around 1.3 - 1.7 depending on wick size)

As you say the low TH might be down to the juice. There's a couple of things you can do: If you can rotate the top cap you can move the air hole away from the wick which will reduce vapour and increase TH, Or you can wind the wattage up which will increase everything.

looking good, though..

This is one of the reasons I prefer to use a mechanical mod with straight battery voltage.

Not all of them use PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). The Orion V3 uses RMS (Root Mean Square). The Zmax lets you choose between RMS and PWM.

I *think* the Provari uses RMS as well, but I may be wrong on that one.

Not sure about the Kick / Crown modules.

Thanks,

I realise 2Ohm is slightly high for a genny,

I will try what you say, However I think past 8 watt for 2Ohm will risk in popping the wire?

Anyhow, since it's working and having a satisfying vape thus far, I will leave it for a while and enjoy the success. Knowing my luck I'll try and recoil it and not be so lucky next time round! I might also look into the mechanical mods and perhaps get another genny style tank to tinker with.
